Quark Brushless sent the Quark Racing Team to the 2006 1/18 Nationals to show what they have. Held April 1-2 at the World Famous R/C Madness facility in Enfield, Connecticut, the 3rd annual 1/18 National had its biggest turnout to date with over 200 entries. Quark sent Frank Root, Jake Thayer, Chris Wheeler, Kyle Bergstrom, Mark Smyka, and Carl Smart to represent Quark in competition.

In the 2wd Brushless slass, Mark Smyka had tough luck the entire weekend. He qualified 2nd, and after a rough first lap, climbed back to a 3rd place finish. In the Big Block Monster Truck class, Kyle Bergtrom qualified 4th, then ran fast and smooth in the main to secure a 3rd place result. In the hotly contested Open Buggy class, Frank and Jake qualified 4th and 5th respectedly. Unfortunately, the leaders wrecked on the 2nd lap breaking Jake's buggy, and sending Frank to last place. He was able to fight back to finish 4th, a strong finish. The fastest and biggest class of the weekend was 4wd Brushless. Carl qualified 7th, Chris 5th, Jake 3rd, and Frank 2nd narrowly missing TQ. Frank left no doubt in the main leading every lap and winning by 12 seconds! Jake fought back from a first lap pile up to finish 2nd, with Chris in 6th, and Carl in 8th. Of the 40+ entries, all 4 Quark drivers finished in the top 8 including the top 2 finishers! After the regular mains, there was a Super Main. The top 3 finishers in Open Buggy, 2wd Brushless, and 4wd Brushless, and 1 Wild Card competed for braggin rights. In addition, all 10 drivers were lined up at the beginning of the straight wheel to wheel for a moto-cross style start! Fast Guy and 3-class winner Tony Phalen, guessed the start tone perfectly, and got the overall holeshot. But from the rest, it was Frank with the smoothest and fastest start, with Quark Brushless Zero Coggin effect pulling hard off the line to follow Tony in to the first turn. Frank caught Tony down the straight on the 3rd lap and make a breathtaking pass through the chicane to the applause of the audience, only to bobble to laps later, he finished 4th. There was also a gentleman at the end of the straight with a radar gun to see what speeds these little cars could get to down the 65-70ft straight. Quark's Jake Thayer held the mark at 32 MPH and Frank in second at 31, Amazing!

The entire Quark Racing Team was running the new Quark 33A ProCar controller with a Hacker E30-13L motor, and Thunder Power 3s Li-Poly batteries. Quark would like to thank Hacker Brushless, Thunder Power Batteries, Darkside Designs, Team Associated, Dean Berry, Chris and rest of the R/C Madness Crew for a great race. And special thanks for Frank, Jake, Chris, Kyle, Mark, and Carl for super effort and outstanding results! We will be back next year to defend our National Championship!
